The President of the Government of the Republic of Serbia, Ms. Ana Brnabic held today a press conference regarding the new measures imposed on citizens, aimed at preventing the exposure of citizens to COVID-19 virus and its spread.

In her speech, Ms. Brnabic emphasized that all counters at republic and local institutions will be closed for citizens and that persons who need to extend their personal documents can do so after the state of emergency is finished, i.e. personal documents shall be valid until the end of the state of emergency regardless of their expiry date. According to Ms. Brnabic, the purchase of gloves, masks and means of disinfection will be subject to restriction and one person will be able to buy only 10 masks, 10 pairs of protection gloves and 2 large or 5 small means of disinfection. Moreover, the export of medicine will be prohibited for up to 30 days. As for the persons who do not comply with the obligation of self-isolation, those persons will be subject to a fine in the amount of RSD 150,000.00. The most restrictive measure will be imposed on persons older than the age of 65 which will be subject to prohibition of leaving their homes with a threatened fine of RSD 150,000.00 for those who disobey this measure. The Government will also issue a recommendation that parents working in public sector, having children up to age of 12, work from their homes (one parent) hoping that also the private sector will follow that example.

Ms. Brnabic also confirmed that Serbia has received first tests for virus detection from China and expressed her sincere gratitude to our friends from China, in particular, one Chinese humanitarian organization with headquarters in Shenzhen.

According to the latest published information, there are 7 new patients with confirmed diagnosis of coronavirus, so currently the total number of persons with COVID-19 diagnosis in Serbia is 55.
